February

Wow! I think the snow is finally gone and we are back into our routines. Can it really be half way through the school year already?

Our class has started a combination science and writing unit. We are having tons of fun asking questions about something we would like to learn then thinking up a hypothesis for that question. Students then get to come up with a procedure for their experiment and record their results. Conclusions are being written that explain how things went and what was learned. Some fantastic writing is coming out of these experiments as they write their lab reports.

In math we are writing and solving story problems written by the students themselves. Once we are finished, look for them in the hallway and see if you can solve some of them! In general, most of our class is still struggling to tell time and count money. Please continue to work on these skills at home.

Characters have been the topic of conversation during our literacy. What are they thinking? Why did they do that? When I read, how should the character sound? It has been fun changing our voices and talking about our characters in deeper ways.

Report cards just went home last week. Be sure to take them out of the envelope, sign the envelope and return it to school. I am able to reuse them each term and it sure makes it easier on me than making new ones each time! Unfortunately, we do not have any more schedule conference days, however, please feel free to call me and set up an appointment if you would like to discuss your child's progress.

Here's looking to an early spring!
